This is an absolute must read Elle Druskin s acknowledgement says that one of her friends classified the novel as a mystery, another as a thriller and yet another as a comedy as she laughed so hard her staff asked her what could possibly be so funny I couldn t imagine how the author could incorporate all three genres into one novel She does and makes it seem effortless How can you not laugh out loud when you read that Lindy s ex husband ate a bowl of dog food without realizing it and then proclaimed very solemnly that the beef needed salt Thank you so much for creating Lindy Kellerman She s a smart ass 40 something divorced mother with two kids, who wears plain cotton underwear instead of thongs, has runs in her pantyhose and wrinkled, stained clothes The mystery thriller novel begins with Lindy, a nursing instructor, opening up her classroom to find a student lying dead on the floor The police are called to investigate and Lindy, who has been a tower of strength, meets Detective Fraser MacKinnon and faints dead away falling into his arms It quickly turns into a comedy novel when Lindy revives from fainting and asks Detective MacKinnon if he s going to do anything about the dead body in her classroom and he replies I ve called the Medical Examiner What else did you have in mind A call to Patricia Cornwell Lindy has her own dirty little secret revealed when her office is searched for clues by the detectives Not only is her office overflowing with papers and scholarly books, but hidden away behind those massive books and dumped in her file cabinet drawers are lots of racy romance novels whose covers are filled with Scottish lairds, heros and warriers clad in the smallest of Tartan kilts This knowledge delights Fraser MacKinnon, who we discover is Scottish and has his own kilt that he offers to model for Lindy Aren t we all suckers for guys in either uniforms or kilts And just exactly what do they wear under those kilts If the novel has a man in uniform or in a kilt on the cover, I m going to pick it up and read it It doesn t even matter what century the story takes place in, because I know the guys are going to be very Alpha Male and HOT Fraser MacKinnon fits the bill as a sexy homicide detective who tags along on a call and finds himself smack in the middle of a murder and is utterly confounded when he meets prime suspect Lindy Kellerman Is she really a suspect or just really scatterbrained Fraser realizes immediately that Lindy s one hot babe and he s determined to catch both her and the murderer The supporting characters in the novel are integral to the flow and just as well crafted as the main characters The children in the novel highlight that fact that both Lindy and Fraser are devoted and loving parents, who listen to their children at the expense of some very hot sex Julie, Lindy s best friend, is referred to as Ethel by Fraser because the two friends do get into just as much mischief as Lucy and Ethel Fraser s partner, Matt Pacula, is in his twenties and trails him around to each crime scene like a puppy Unfortunately Matt constantly makes Fraser feel like an old man, rather than a seasoned detective. The author also uses a very effective technique in her novel thus adding to the thriller mystery part of the novel Several passages in the novel are italicized encouraging the reader to pay particular attention to those passages The passages don t appear to have any relationship to the murder, but are vital to understanding the who done it part of the novel So pay attention and don t skip over them as they explain the reason for the murder The witty banter between Lindy and Fraser gets better with each and every page as does their sexual frustration Every time they re close to making love either the phone rings or their kids intervene Julie promotes the budding romance by putting 50 in Lindy s purse to pay for a babysitter along with a pack of condoms We are so relieved when they are ALL used just before the end of the novel This novel is definitely a must have in your library I can t wait to read future novels by this author Originally reviewed on The Romance Review

Set in Australia, To Catch A Cop is a witty and clever romantic suspense with a quirky heroine and a hero determined to prove her innocence Lindy Kellerman has a full plate two kids, a full time job as a nursing instructor, a thesis to write, but when a student dies in her classroom, all eyes fall on her Can Detective Frasier MacKinnon prove her innocent of the murder The story opens with Lindy and her students arriving for class only to discover that a student, Sasha, is dead The police are called along with the staff Detective Frasier MacKinnon takes over the case, but right away things don t add up Lindy appears to be the prime suspect, but doesn t act like it Further confounding the investigation, Frasier realizes he s attracted to Lindy.Lindy s stress grows on all fronts Her ex husband rarely helps with the children, she looks like the prime suspect in the police investigation, there are finals to grade, her doctorate thesis is due soon, and the school counselor, Borowski, is riding her to finish her grant application.Lindy decides to take matters into her own hands and begins to question her students about Sasha She soon discovers Sasha was bad news and was dealing drugs Shortly afterwards, Lindy starts receiving threats.Frasier sticks close to Lindy to protect her, but their mutual attraction begins to get in the way Can Frasier and Lindy get it together to make it work or will the case drive them apart To Catch A Cop shifts between first person Lindy and third person Frasier Druskin s writing is sharp and makes this challenge look easy She captures a strong first person voice, engaging the reader and taking them along for the ride with Lindy.Druskin s plot is clever and witty I found myself rooting for Lindy at every turn. The characters shine Lindy is a little older, struggling with a mountain of problems that everyone can identify with, yet Lindy doesn t let her problems weigh her down She s a modern everyday heroine to be admired.Frasier MacKinnon is a hero that the reader can root for He s handsome, sharp, and determined to finish what he starts His attraction to Lindy is unexpected, yet he does his best to solve the case.If anything, the font on the ebook changes and there are several typos, but that did not take away from my enjoyment of the overall story. The novel is sensual for romance readers and the love scene is tasteful Drushkin strikes a wonderful balance between the comedic and suspenseful elements of the story To Catch A Cop will warm your heart, leave you biting your nails, and have you cheering for Lindy from start to finish.
